                                       DEAD ISLAND

Intro: Now I originally took down my Dead Island review comic....because i wasn't satisfied with it in the slightest. I'll Admit that it was rushed and in pretty low quality so I decided to dispose of it. I plan on starting a chain of reviews in a particular style that you maybe familiar with and is more comfortable. I will be looking at these distinct categories as I structure the review: Intro, Story, Gameplay, Character, Music, Conclusion, and lastly Rating. So let's get started.

Story: The real extent of the story is that four survivors must band together in order to get through a zombie infested island by the name of Banoi. Along the way the four heroes will encounter other people struggling to keep alive and in need of assistance.....that's pretty much it. I know there's a FUCK load of other things I would've went over but the point is....I just turned a deaf ear to the stories. Seriously if you're story isn't that intuitive and you give me the option to skip cutscenes I'LL USE IT. If you're more interested in the story I recommend finding the wiki.

Gameplay: Unlike most zombie games out there that focus  on their shooter aspects, Dead Island decides to say "screw your guns how about caving some faces with a crowbar, baseball bat, etc." The game is packed to the BRIM with machetes, Katanas, Frying Pans, Knives, Sledgehammers, and that's just to name a few. But don't think they completely forgot about the lovable projectile weapons we're so accustom to they're here......sort of. Handguns, Auto Rifles, Single shot Rifles, Shotguns, Revolvers and Magnums will be at your disposal. Only problem......they're utterly useless A LOT of the time. They're scarce, weak against zombies and good luck finding ammo for it that isn't from the douche bag merchants or punks (the human enemy). Speaking of punks, they're really the only enemy where using guns is comfortable because one shot to the face kills them and 99% of them carry firearms. Now...in addition to the wide "variety" of weapons you have a variety of enemies that are ready to ruin the rest of your day let's go down the list.

----Walkers are your standard slow, shambling undead that roam the island frequently. All I have to say is have fun cutting them apart but be careful they have strength in numbers.

----Infected..OH BOY they're the double edged sword of the entire game. On one hand, they're the weakest enemy variant in the game (even against the one shot punks). On the other, they can be the most annoying and arguable the strongest type of enemy in the game (even is they go down easy they're still a pain). The Infected are the game's fragile speedster which all means they're fast but somewhat weak. The game recommends taking them out from a distance...hmm should thought that over before you made a MELEE WEAPON FOCUSED game!!!

----Floaters are Dead Island's boomer. They're somewhat show, large, and their primary attack is to hurl corrosive slime from their mouths at the player which not only blinds you but hurts you equally. They're another enemy that the same fucked up jackass who made the Infected put in to be fought at a distance. And this is HIGHLY recommended because not only can this fat fuck swipe his arm at you for massive damage he can do 180 vomit sway which 90% of the time kills you. Oh yeah and to add the cherry on top...he's immune to fire.

----Thug zombies are big bricks who can rarely be knocked down without an explosive. Think of a walker on steroids when you see one this thing can send you careening back so much as he gives you a high five. But even with that knowledge he's a pushover just cripple his arms and go to town on his head and he'll fall over easily.

----Rams in my opinion is the most pathetic enemy in the game. These mental patients in a large strait jacket may seem intimidating but dodge them as they charge and wail on their weak spot.

----Butchers...the game shows them as this powerful zombie but no...they're actually manageable if you know the situation. They're meaner, tougher version of the infected (which is already a red flag) complete with no arms just sharp stubs they use to slice you up. The only distinguishable properties about them is their appearance, the ability to dodge and the ability to kick. Other than that they operate just  like the infected.

----Suicider probably the freakiest enemy because not only for their appearance but they're hinted as still self aware. This is justified because if you have a good ear you can here a faint "help me" which can let you know that one's around. Suiciders have no real attack besides...self destruction (hence their name). The easiest thing to do is to excess your environment then run up to them and run in the opposite direction. This'll trigger it to explode and you didn't have to use a single weapon or bullet.

Characters: The four survivors are as followed: Sam B (Blunt weapons, Logan (Throwing weapons), Purna (Guns) and Xian Mei (Sharp weapons). Each have different "fury" skill which can alter a situation in the game. Sam B goes full berserk, Xian Mei pulls out her knife and hacks things to rivets (ULTRA SATISFYING), Purna pulls out her private gun, and Logan throws knives. The characters personalities.......are non existent to me. Basically what you need to know is you have a black guy (Sam B), a white guy (Logan), an optimist (Xian Mei), and your cynic (Purna "I hate rich assholes"but...you work at a job that requires that you be around them :/).

Music: Another thing that I turned a deaf ear to besides the pause screen because it NEVER SHUTS UP. It's this depressing ass guy strumming a guitar as sadly as he can to try to fit this games so called dark atmosphere.

Conclusion: The review itself may have been a little lacking so I'll basically sum up what the game is to me. It's one of those games that tries to do too much and it should have been scratched and revised. This game had a light development hell which is probably the reason mine and everybody else's reaction to the trailer was "What the hell was it trying to accomplish."  I would have enjoyed the game a lot more if it where like the trailer because that would have been an awesome and emotional experience ( don't get me wrong I did enjoy the game....but it was still lacking). The major problem was the ACTUAL sad part of the game where hollow, token, cliche and I felt should have been done off screen. I'm sorry....but the tone of the overall game just got in the way a little too much.

Final Rating : Decent
OH CHRIST this took forever!!! It's also very long so if you stay and read everything I can't thank you enough. But anyways this is my revised review of Dead Island
